THE ROGERS PARK GARDEN GROUP

The power of gardens to build communities through beauty, camaraderie and involvement.

How to Join the Rogers Park Garden Group

Volunteers Welcome
Individuals and businesses are not only encouraged to join the RPGG but to get involved by participating on a committee or project.  Perhaps one of these committees appeals to your interests and talents?

Program committee:  Help determine RPGG events and find speakers for future RPGG meetings. The committee meets monthly monthly from Novemeber through April and then as needed. Each program committee member takes charge of a single RPGG meeting by contacting and confirming the speaker, collecting biographical details, and assisting with logistics (from venue to technology needs).

Community Garden committee:  While planning and implementing a community garden project is, bluntly, a huge amount of work, with a lot of committed volunteers it is also a lot of fun and rewarding. Volunteer needs can be matched to the time you have available and your interests. Responsibilities include reviewing applications and visiting proposed sites to report to the steering committee, researching funding and in-kind donations offered through Chicago non-profits and munipal divisions, seeking permits and permissions to plant on public space (Chicago Park District, METRA, etc.) and/or coordinating with private property owners, fundraising, working with RPGG marketing committee to promote the project, plant selection and purchase, renovating and preparing the site, overseeing installation of the garden and monitoring garden maintenance and upkeep.

Marketing committee: It takes a village to promote RPGG meetings, events, membership outreach, and member services.  Help promote the RPGG by writing website and newsletter copy and articles, publicity and media outreach, distributing posters and flyers, working with local groups such as the Rogers Park Builders' Group, DevCorp, RPCC, and others. We need event photographers too!
